Locerna is about places, not people. Here is where the map's data comes from, how people appear in it, and what we keep if you make an account.
Where the map's data comes from
Every score on the map is built from the sources below, each published by someone else and dated by the period it describes. For each one, this is what we use and how people appear in it.
-
Who lives nearby: age, income, households
Statistics Sweden (SCB), DeSO areas2024 to 2025
Totals and averages for areas of 700 to 2,700 residents each. SCB publishes them; no one person can be picked out.
-
Every business, its rating and reviews
Google PlacesOct 2026
A business's name, place, type, whether it's open, its average rating, number of reviews and price level. Never the reviews themselves or who wrote them.
-
Companies registered, opened and closed
BolagsverketOct 2026
The public company register. For sole traders, whose company name and number are often the owner's own, we drop the name and number and keep only its trade, when it opened or closed, and its street.
-
Streets and how people walk through them
OpenStreetMapOct 2026
Streets, paths and buildings, mapped by volunteers. Walking flow is our own model of the street network, not tracked movement.
-
Stops, lines and departures
Samtrafiken timetablesOct 2026
Published public transport timetables. Nothing about passengers.
-
Commercial rent asked
Lokalguiden listingsOct 2026
Premises advertised for rent: size, asking rent, where, the landlord company and what the ad mentions. Contact names and phone numbers on the ads are never read.
-
Shopping areas and their staff
SCB retail areas2020
Shopping areas and how many people work in them, as totals.
-
Where people live, block by block
An estimate of how many people live in each patch of about 30 metres, modelled from census totals and satellite images of buildings. A count, never a person.
-
Parks, water and green space
ESA WorldCover2021
Land cover from satellite images, at 10 metres. Nothing about people.
How we treat people in that data
- Areas, not individuals. Where a source describes people, such as age, income or where they live, we use the totals published for an area or a modelled count for a patch of ground. Nothing on the map describes one person.
- Less than the source offers. When a source carries personal details we don't need, we don't collect them, or we drop them on the way in: review texts and reviewers, names and phone numbers on rent ads, and sole traders' names and ID numbers.
- No movement tracking. "Foot traffic" is a model of how the street network channels walking, not a count of phones or cards.
- Dated, and kept up to date. Business listings from Google are refreshed within the period Google allows, or removed.
If you think something on the map is about you, or a business listing is wrong, write to hello@locerna.com and we'll look at it.
Using the map
The map and this website work without an account. We don't use cookies to follow you. Your browser keeps a few settings for you, such as the city you last looked at and your language. They stay on your device and you can clear them any time.
Like any web map, it fetches its street and satellite images from map tile services (OpenFreeMap, OpenStreetMap and Esri), which see your IP address and the part of the map you're looking at. They get nothing about you or your account.
Photos on a space to rent are shown straight from the site that advertises it, credited and linked to the ad; we don't copy them. That site sees your IP address when the photo loads, and nothing else about you.
If you send us feedback
The Feedback button on the map sends us your message, which part of the map it's about, the city and map you were on, and your email if you give it or are signed in, so we can reply. Only we can read it, in our database in Stockholm. We keep it for at most two years, and sooner if you ask. Deleting your account also deletes the feedback you sent while signed in.
If you make an account
We keep:
- Your email address, to sign you in. There's no password: we email you a link or a 6-digit code.
- Your name and language, if you give them.
- Your notebook: the places you save, your notes on them and what you liked.
- Your priorities for each business type, if you save them.
- Your plan: Plus or not, and when your trial ends. New accounts get 14 days of Plus free, with no card.
- Security records: when and from where you signed in, and whether you use an authenticator app, to protect your account and help you recover it.
Your notebook and priorities can be read only by you, signed in. We don't sell data or share it for marketing. Your account is stored in the EU, in Stockholm, and we use a few service providers to run Locerna: Supabase for the database, Cloudflare for hosting and Resend for email. Each may use your data only for that job. Where one is based outside the EU, the transfer is covered by the EU's Standard Contractual Clauses or the EU–US Data Privacy Framework. Paid plans aren't open yet; when they are, a payment company will take the payment, so we never see your card, and we'll name it here first.
How long, and your rights
We keep your account until you delete it. Deleting it, on your account page under Your data, removes your account, notebook and priorities at once; backup copies are replaced within a short while after. Waitlist emails are kept until Plus opens, or until you ask.
You can see, correct, export or delete what we hold about you, and object to how we use it. Export and delete are on your account page. For anything else, write to hello@locerna.com from the address on your account and we'll reply within a month. You can also complain to the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection (IMY).
We rely on providing the service you signed up for (your account), our legitimate interest in keeping Locerna safe (security records and the check against bots on sign-in) and, for feedback and the waitlist, your consent.
Who is responsible, and changes
Locerna decides what happens to the data described here. Questions go to hello@locerna.com, and a person answers. If we change what we keep or where it comes from, we'll update this page and its date first, and email account holders when the change matters to them.
